Lengthy update! Oh snap!

Alright, let me see how can I break it down for you guys...

*thinks*

Okay, here's the whole thing:

  • I'm working! (not really)

I'm actually on practice, a 2-and-a-half-month-long period. There is a good and a bad thing about it:
    1. Good: I'm learning stuff I didn't before, and mostly about how real work is. But that's all there's to it.

    2. Bad: I'm not happy with the company. It's not what I thought a company would be, specially nowadays. But I got my hopes too high.

The first thing I felt a bit annoyed about is how centered the people is towards a programming language, specially the bosses. It's either ASP.NET or XML. They barely code in PHP, and that's already a lot. All the servers run in Windows, specially the shared host. And it runs IIS, instead of Apache, so no PHP for it, since it's a shared host. They wanted a CMS (Drupal, Wordpress, etc...) but there are none that fits their configuration.

I've barely got work these weeks, and they're giving me whatever little thing they have to do, if there's any at all. Which really frustrates me. Most of you will say that's good, that I get to do little to nothing, but I don't like doing nothing. I'm a very auto-didactic person, and I like to learn something new about the things I like. That's one of the things I don't like about this.

Bottom-line: I'd rather be in another company, honestly. They're not going to hire me anyway.

  • Bournemouth, here I go!

This year I'm going back to Bournemouth for 3 weeks. The sweet thing about it is that I already know the place around, and I won't get fooled again :D

I'll go to the same school (Kingsmore International), and hopefully a better (and closer) family this time. Which will be even sweeter (yay!~)

  • Reading material:

I've been reading 2 blogs recently, aside from the typical: /., TheDailyWTF, ALT1040, Laura's Blog when-she-posts. They are:

-> Kirai: A geek in Japan : It's a blog about the everyday life and findings of Héctor García, a Spanish System Engineer, in Japan, where he currently lives and work at. It's a very interesting blog, and he wrote a book not long ago. I'll buy it if I find it and tell you guys about it :) I'm sure it'll be worth every copper.

-> An Amazing Mind is a blog about psychology, Linux and self-improvement, specially since the point of an I.T. person. It has very interesting articles, which I personally recommend to read. It's not aimed (mainly) at geeks, so don't worry about not understanding anything ;)

  • Flickr! status:

I know, I know, I know, I know! I should update it more frequently, but ever since I bought my new Sony DSC-W55, it makes me think scanning the pictures is such a big, long-term task which somehow may never end. Or may end. Regardless, I'll promise to have all, if not as much as possible, before I go back to Bournemouth. Promise.

And that's it guys, for this year? Maybe :)

Censorship

Watch this first.

Now, why did 19 police men and women altogether had to get this guy down to the ground, tasered without an apparent reason and then taken out, probably to "answer some questions"?

How did this simple question rise so much scandal and action?:

“If it's so clear the last elections have been manipulated, why did you accept the result, did not protest and hastily declared your defeat against George W. Bush?. Why didn't you request George W. Bush resignation?”

I absolutely find no (visible) reason behind such actions. He's been charged with Public Disorder and Arrest Resistance, charges which I find reciprocal to his actions: asking a simple question. What was the problem with just saying "We found that out later, we couldn't do anything by then. Next."? Absolutely none!

This censorship is getting annoying, and it's all over the place. One day we'll have to think all of the words we'll say on that day, because we might get arrested under "Public Disorder".

Update Friday 2007-09-21:
Wheelchair-Bound Woman Dies After Being Shocked With Taser 10 Times

This is unbelievable....

On the other hand, and a much larger censorship case is this:

“Chavez threatens to nationalize non-compliant private schools”

Right now, Venezuela's dictator is currently on a plan to implement his "Bolivarianism" in all of the school, be it public (state) or private. Public schools of course will have this new brain-washing "subject" implemented and its teachers deployed at once, but the private schools will be forced to implement it, otherwise they'll lose their "private" status, and become part of the state. In other words, it means a full downgrade of teaching quality in that school.

I lived in Venezuela for 16 years, enough to say that Private schools are the only way for people to actually get a decent education, enough to prepare them for the University and raise a family. Public schools were most of the time on strike, the students weren't attending classes or the school material and furniture was in a depressing state, more than enough reason not to choose it over a private. Sadly, the amount of population who could afford a private school for their children wasn't the majority.

But anyway! Back on topic. This new "Bolivarianism" aims at indoctrinating people once they start school, making them believe the dictator is a God-like ruler of the country, hence, making everyone shut their yappies about the things they don't like. Their parents may (and I really hope they do) tell them that what those brain-washers are teaching is absolutely non-sense and utter crap, that they should not believe it. But chances are they won't, to protect them from the killers of the government.

If this ever gets rolling for over a few years, I don't really want to see my dear country become a land of ignorance, leftist communism and fear. I really don't...

En la puta vida

"Aceptalo, No vas a tener casa en la Puta Vida"

This is going to be a spanish-only post. Sorry 'bout that guys.

Global Warming: we're the players now.

Lo siento por las personas que hablen español y no entiendad muy bien el inglés, ya les explico luego.

You all know that Global Warming is a rising problem. Take Spain for example. Here where I live, Galicia, it's about summer and we still have rain. I know Galicia is rain forest-like, but this is madness! (THIS AIN'T SPARTA, /b/).

Last year the rain was gone and the sun was heating everything up to 38 ºC by May 31st! To this very day (June 13rd 2007), we still have rain and a mild/cold weather. This is total craziness.

This might be an effect of the Global Warming, who knows? All I know is that if it is, it's not going to look pretty at all.

I found the following video in CAD's website, which totally made me think, What does really matter: money or the future? Check it out:

http://www.break.com/index/tough-to-argue.html

Innactivity

As some of you know, or guessed, I have no internet at (my new) home.

Yes I moved, and I did request the move of the phone line. But like in all the countries, ISP are the biggest and fattest lazy bastards humanity has ever known. I don't specially need it at the moment, since I can browse from school, but my dad needs it.

The past weekend (May 4-5), a cousin of mine had an accident. He's in critical status, although slowly recovering. My dad needs to call every now and then to know how is he. He's the son of my dad's sister, and they're a very united family. I hope everything turns out good...
